CINCINNATI, June 9 (UPI) -- A former teacher and Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader, jailed for having sex with a student, is engaged to the student now that he has turned 18, her lawyer said.
Sarah Jones, 26, a former ninth-grade teacher at Dixie Heights High School, is serving five years probation after she pleaded guilty to sex abuse in October for having sex with 17-year-old Cody York, a student at her school.
Her charge was reduced to sexual misconduct in exchange for her guilty plea.
York, now 18, proposed to Jones last week and the couple announced their engagement on Instagram and Facebook, WCPO-TV, Cincinnati, reported Friday.
"There's absolutely nothing prohibiting [the victim] and Sarah from being together," Jones' lawyer, Eric Deters, told WCPO in October.
York's Facebook page says he attends Northern Kentucky University, and Jones works as a paralegal for her lawyer, ABC News reported Saturday.
Jones can never apply to work as a teacher again as part of her plea deal.
