BOSTON, June 8 (UPI) -- Andrea, a post-tropical depression, was moving toward the northeast Saturday, threatening gale conditions in parts of New England, forecasters said.
In its 11 a.m. EDT update, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Andrea was about 75 miles east of Portland, Maine, and about 265 miles west-southwest of Halifax, Nova Scotia, with top sustained winds of 45 mph.
The storm was moving northeast at 39 mph and tropical storm force winds extended outward from the center of the storm for as much as 255 miles.
The storm is expected to turn toward the east-northeast and east Saturday night and Sunday as it loses some forward speed. On its forecast track, the center of the storm is expected to move across Atlantic Canada later Saturday through Sunday, the hurricane center said.
No coastal watches or warnings were in effect.
Little change in strength is expected through Sunday night.
Heavy rainfall associated with the storm is expected to end Saturday afternoon across Maine and then arrive in parts of Atlantic Canada, accompanied by strong gusty winds, through Sunday.
Andrea, which made landfall in Florida Thursday, dropped as much as 4 inches of rain on parts of the mid-Atlantic Friday, causing urban flooding and other damage.
