Phoenix man shot and killed by 4-year-old son

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz., June 8 (UPI) -- A Phoenix man was shot and killed by his young son Friday afternoon when the 4-year-old got hold of a gun while they were at a friend's home, police said.

Police said the man, described as being in his 30s, dropped in on a friend in Prescott Valley, Ariz., about 85 miles north of Phoenix, The Arizona Republic reported. Brandon Bonney, a spokesman for Prescott Valley Police, said the shooting occurred at about 12:30 p.m., a short time after the visitors arrived, and the man died some time later in the hospital.

Bonney said the shooting was still under investigation. He suggested the friend, not expecting a child, may have forgotten to secure his gun.

The boy was returned to his mother.
