Poll: 44 percent say China is U.S. friend; 14 percent call China enemy

PRINCETON, N.J., June 7 (UPI) -- Forty-four percent of Americans think China is a country that is friendly to the United States, a Gallup poll indicated.

Twenty-six percent said China is unfriendly and 14 percent believed China is an enemy in the poll among 1,529 adults nationwide.

The poll was conducted June 1-4, days before scheduled talks between U.S. President Barack Obama and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.

The relationship between the two countries has been strained recently by alleged cyberhacking, unfair trade practices and North Korea's nuclear program, Gallup said

Gallup's poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
