SAN ANTONIO, June 6 (UPI) -- A teacher and teacher's aide from Texas who admitted duct taping a second-grader to his chair have resigned from their posts, officials said.
The Judson Independent School District was alerted to the incident May 30 and conducted an investigation, the San Antonio (Texas) Express-News reported.
During the investigation, the teacher and aide, whose names were not reported, resigned from their posts at Woodlake Elementary School in San Antonio in lieu of termination, school district spokesman Steve Linscomb said.
The student said the teacher and aide wrapped tape around his wrists, ankles and torso, a police report of the incident stated.
"The student, in their opinion, had gotten too rambunctious and rowdy, and they said that he would not stay in his seat, so that's what they did," Linscomb said. "That obviously is not the way to take care of it, but that's what they did."
When a police investigation of the incident is completed, the matter will be handed to the Bexar County district attorney's office for review, Linscomb said.
