OKLAHOMA CITY, June 6 (UPI) -- The value of insured losses from May's tornadoes in Oklahoma is at nearly $250 million and expected to rise, the state insurance commissioner said.

Tornado-related insurance claims since May 19 totaled 32,000 as of Tuesday, Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak said, including over 13,900 claims by homeowners, 720 commercial property claims and nearly 17,500 automobile claims.

Doak earlier estimated the insurance losses from the May 20 tornado alone could top $2 billion, The (Oklahoma City) Oklahoman reported Thursday.

"The victims can rest assured that we (the state insurance commission) will be here to provide help until the last claim is filed," Doak said in a statement.
