Judge dismisses Corbett's suit against NCAA over Penn State sanctions

HARRISBURG, Pa., June 6 (UPI) -- A lawsuit filed by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett to overturn NCAA sanctions against Penn State was dismissed Thursday.

Judge Yvette Kane said Corbett's complaint does not show the NCAA's sanctions violate federal antitrust laws.

The sanctions, put in place after the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal at the school, include a $60 million fine, reductions in football scholarships and a ban on appearances in bowl games, the (State College, Pa.) Centre Daily Times reported, noting Penn State was not a party to the lawsuit.

Corbett filed the suit in January. Kane heard oral arguments from both sides at a hearing in Harrisburg, Pa., last month, court records said.
