SAN JOSE, Calif., June 5 (UPI) -- A California woman imprisoned for planting a severed finger in a bowl of restaurant chili in 2005 will return to jail for a new hoax, court records indicate.
Anna Ayala, 47, of San Jose, Calif., was sentenced to two years for attempting to conceal her son's accidental shooting of himself in October 2012. On parole after a felony burglary conviction, her son, Guadalupe "Junior" Reyes, 26, was not allowed to own a weapon, the San Jose Mercury News reported Wednesday, adding Ayala and Reyes blamed the shooting on two men.
Ayala pleaded no contest this week, under a plea deal offered by superior Court Judge Phil Pennypacker, to being an accessory to a felony, filing a false police report and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
She will receive a two-year sentence, as will Reyes, when they are sentenced in September.
Ayala gained notoriety and a nine-year prison sentence, later reduced to four years, in 2005 when she claimed to have found a severed finger in a bowl of chili at a Wendy's restaurant, the newspaper said.
The attempted hoax cost the restaurant chain millions in lost business, Wendy's said.
