Obama traveling to California for diplomacy and politics

WASHINGTON, June 4 (UPI) -- President Obama will travel to California this week with politics and diplomacy on his agenda, the White House said Tuesday.

Obama will head to San Jose to attend Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee events Thursday and the next day will meet privately with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the Palm Springs area.

Obama also will deliver a statement Friday morning in San Jose touting the benefits of the Affordable Care Act.

"He'll highlight the promising news that, despite dire predictions, early data on insurance competition and premiums in the state shows the Affordable Care Act is creating quality, affordable choices for Californians who plan to buy insurance this fall," the White House said in a statement.

"California is the largest state with the biggest insurance market in the country and with nearly 6 million uninsured, the state is also a critical part of the effort to sign up Americans for insurance."

Obama will confer with Xi later Friday at the Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands and will spend the night in Rancho Mirage, the White House said.
