Boy, 10, foils home invasion

NEW YORK, June 4 (UPI) -- An alert 10-year-old boy foiled a home invasion and robbery attempt by two men who stormed a New York City home, police said.

The boy, who lives in Brooklyn's Canarsie neighborhood, was home with six others when two men posing as FedEx deliverymen came to the door then forced their way into the home at gunpoint about 5:15 p.m. Monday, the New York Daily News said.

Police said the boy and a 40-year-old woman fled the living room to a bedroom with one of the suspects in hot pursuit. The woman slammed the door on the armed suspect, who dropped his handgun. The boy picked it up and fired at the suspect, missing him. Then the other robber fired a shot back at the boy, which also missed.

The two robbers then fled empty-handed.

The New York Post said the boy's parents are shopkeepers in the area and neighbors hypothesized the family was targeted because of the perception they kept cash in their home.
