Skydiver killed following accident

EVERETT, Wash., June 1 (UPI) -- A skydiver from Washington state died after hitting the ground at high speed even though his parachute deployed during a jump, police said.

The 27-year-old man, whose name was not reported, died about 4 p.m. PDT Friday after jumping from a plane operated by Skydive Snohomish, a skydiving club that operated out of Harvey Field in Snohomish County. A club spokeswoman told The Seattle Times he was an experienced skydiver with about 400 jumps to his credit.

The skydiving club spokeswoman said the man was trying to execute a "highly advanced maneuver" but didn't elaborate on what that meant. She said his parachute was fully functional and deployed properly.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
