Ex-employees charged with stealing from disabled artists group

DECATUR, Ga., May 29 (UPI) -- Two former employees and members of their families have been charged in Georgia with embezzling $1.7 million from a group of disabled artists.

Christina Kelly and Tujuana Ross, their ex-husbands and Kelly's two daughters were indicted last week, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.

Before they were arrested in 2011, Kelly was a seasonal employee and Ross a full-time worker at Mouth and Foot Painting Artists. The group, a for-profit organization, raises money for artists unable to use their hands or feet.

DeKalb County prosecutors say Kelly, around 2006, created a bank account under the name C. Kelly DBA MFPA. She began depositing checks written to the organization into her own account.

Ross allegedly joined in later. Kelly allegedly provided checks from the account to Ross, her own daughters and both of their now ex-husbands.

All six have been charged with racketeering and with money laundering, identity theft and theft.
