4.6-magnitude earthquake strikes off Santa Barbara, Calif., coast

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., May 29 (UPI) -- A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck Wednesday morning off the coast of Santa Barbara, Calif., the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake struck at 7:38 a.m. PDT in the Pacific Ocean, 3 miles west of Isla Vista. A 2.6-magnitude aftershock was observed at 7:50 a.m. in the same spot, where a second 2.6 aftershock was recorded at 8:38 a.m., the USGS said.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department, Office of Emergency Management and Fire Department, said there had been no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The Los Angeles Times reported numerous comments from those who felt the earthquake. One, on social media from @SunsetStripLocal said, "It has definitely been a while since I was woken up by an earthquake. Thanks Santa Barbara."
