3 rescued from capsized catamaran off California coast

SAN FRANCISCO, May 27 (UPI) -- Three people were treated for hypothermia after being rescued from their overturned catamaran off the coast of North California, authorities said.

The rescue occurred about 6:45 p.m. Saturday near Ryer Island in Suisun Bay, the California Highway Patrol said.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported it took a U.S. Coast Guard rescue boat and CHP helicopter about a half hour to locate the distressed sailors, who had drifted 2 miles from their originally reported location.

One man was standing atop the catamaran, while the other two were wearing life jackets and clinging to each other in the water.
