3 presumed drowned in Houston area this weekend

HOUSTON, May 27 (UPI) -- Three people were presumed drowned in the Houston area, marring the Memorial Day weekend, authorities said.

The Houston Chronicle reported the stronger-than-usual tides and large holiday crowds contributed to the fatalities

The three people were missing at the San Luis Pass, known for its strong currents and changing bottom.

The U.S. Coast Guard and other local authorities searched Sunday for a 48-year-old Missouri City man and his 10-year-old son. The newspaper said the boy first got into trouble and the father ran into the water to save him. Family members told investigators both

On Friday, Chris Jackson, 18, of League City was overtaken by a large wave while swimming off the Galveston side of the pass.
