ST. PAUL, Minn., May 23 (UPI) -- Crews Thursday found the body of a 10-year-old student in a park where a student died and two were injured in a landslide during a field trip in St. Paul, Minn.
The fourth-grade students from Peter Hobart Elementary School in St. Louis Park, Minn., were looking for fossils in Lilydale Regional Park when rain-soaked soil gave way. One student, whose name hasn't been reported, was pulled from the landslide but was pronounced dead at Regions Hospital.
Two students were injured and a firefighter was hurt when he was hit by a rock during rescue efforts.
The search for the fourth student was suspended Wednesday night and resumed Thursday morning, when crews found the body of Zack Mohamed Fofana, 10, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.
Mohamed's father, Lancine Fofana, told the newspaper his son had been excited about going on the field trip.
Fofana didn't blame the school for the way the field trip turned out.
"Anything can happen," he said. "This is like an accident."
One of the two injured students was buried up to his waist and was listed in serious condition Thursday. The other injured student was treated for an injured ankle and released.
Public safety personnel consulted Thursday with geologists, including representatives of the Minnesota Geological Survey, to evaluate safety conditions before resuming the search, the newspaper said.
MGS Director Harvey Thorleifson said it was not yet clear what caused the collapse, the Pioneer Press reported.
