Daniel Araujo, a personal banker at a Wells Fargo branch, has been charged with felony theft by taking and financial exploitation of an elderly person, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Police began investigating after Mary Massey, 90, reported her money had been stolen, Atlanta police officer Kim Jones said Tuesday.
They found Araujo had called Massey into the bank and "manipulated the victim into signing what she thought was a transfer slip from her checking to her savings, but which in fact turned out to be a cash withdrawal slip," Jones said.
Araujo then deposited Massey's withdrawn cash into his personal account, the officer said.
Investigators were checking for additional victims after finding more than $50,000 in recent cash deposits in Araujo's account.
