FBI searches Spokane, Wash., apartment in ricin letters case

SPOKANE, Wash., May 19 (UPI) -- FBI agents searched a Spokane, Wash., apartment complex as part of an investigation into ricin-laced letters mailed last week, a bureau spokeswoman said.

U.S. Postal Service workers intercepted two ricin-laced letters last week -- one addressed to a federal judge, the other to the USPS -- FBI spokeswoman Ayn Sandalo Dietrich said. The letters, postmarked May 14, were caught before reaching the intended targets.

As part of the investigation into the tainted letters, the FBI, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and Spokane police searched the Osmun Apartments Saturday morning, The (Spokane) Spokesman-Review reported Sunday.

Sandalo Dietrich said no arrests had been made in the search.

The connection between the apartment building and the ricin letters, and the results of the search, were not reported.
