Authorities said the 42-year-old man disappeared while surfing off Pacific Beach in San Diego, the Los Angeles Times said Friday. His fiancee reported him missing when he didn't return home Wednesday evening, prompting a rescue effort including boats and a helicopter.
The man's body was spotted by a beach-goer early Thursday. He was naked and his wetsuit was wrapped around his surf board, both of which were recovered by police. The man had sustained shark bites though the medical examiner's initial report said those bites were post-mortem. A complete examination was expected to take place Friday.
Authorities still don't know why the man was naked or what caused him to drown.
