SHINGLETOWN, Calif., May 9 (UPI) -- Police in California said they found the abandoned truck of a missing man accused of shooting and killing his wife and two daughters.

Shane Franklyn Miller, 45, was the lone suspect in the shooting deaths of his wife, Sandy Miller, 34, and two daughters, Shelby Miller, 8, and Shasta Miller, 4, The Record Searchlight, of Redding, Calif., reported Wednesday.

Shingletown, Calif., police said they found the three victims dead at their home Tuesday night.

"The husband and father was responsible for the alleged three homicides," Lt. Dave Kent said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

Lt. Steve Knight of the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said authorities found Shane Miller's 2010 Dodge pickup abandoned in a rural area near Petrolia, near where the suspect is believed to have stayed at a cabin in the past.

Law enforcement issued an alert Wednesday that the suspect might be heading to a cabin where he was thought to have a "cache of weapons," the newspaper said.

Several schools in the area were placed on lockdown after the alert.
