WASHINGTON, May 8 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama has chosen Twitter Inc.'s legal director to be the White House's first chief privacy officer, CNET reported.
Nicole Wong, who joined Twitter in November, earned the nickname "the Decider" while she was Google Inc.'s deputy general counsel before Twitter. At Google, she decided issues of free speech and censorship for Google and YouTube.
Wong, the White House and Twitter had no immediate comment on the reports.
U.S. tech media website CNET, which first reported the appointment, said the new position would be a senior adviser to U.S. Chief Technology Officer Todd Park, who has been in the role since March 2012.
Wong will focus on Internet and privacy policy.
Before joining Google she was a partner at the Seattle law firm of Perkins Coie LLP, where she represented traditional media and new media clients.
