NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla., May 8 (UPI) -- A Florida man who spent days trapped in his car after driving home with a broken hip says he was injured in a fall at a nearby supermarket.
Jay Ambrozia, 90, said after his fall at the Publix store employees helped him into his car with his groceries and sent him on his way, the Tampa Bay Times reported. By the time he reached home in New Port Richey and backed into his garage, Ambrozia said, he hurt too much to leave the car.
That was on Tuesday, April 30, Ambrozia said. On Thursday, neighbor Tim Weidman saw a hand sticking out of the car window waving and heard Ambrozia calling out as he approached the garage.
On Tuesday, Ambrozia was still hospitalized.
A spokesman for Publix said the store is reviewing security videotapes and talking to employees who were working last week.
