PHILADELPHIA, May 7 (UPI) -- A Philadelphia couple charged with probation violation after a second son died without medical care were allowed to remain free after a status hearing.
A judge who found last month that Catherine and Herbert Schaible violated their probation said Monday he will revisit the case at a hearing June 6, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. By that time, authorities expect to have autopsy results that will allow a determination of what killed their 8-month-old son, Brandon.
In the meantime, Mythri Jayaraman, who represents Catherine Schaible, said the couple's seven surviving children are in three different foster homes and have been given physical examinations. Jayaraman said a Family Court judge ordered the Department of Human Services to ensure the children get any needed medical treatment.
The Schaibles, members of a fundamentalist church that believes in using prayer against illness, were convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 2009 after their son, Kent, 2, died. They were placed on probation.
Brandon Schaible died last month after developing severe diarrhea.
