SAN JOSE, Calif., May 6 (UPI) -- A California Cinco de Mayo celebration got out of hand and a public bus was pelted with rocks after police came to control the large crowd, authorities say.
The crowd had spilled into a street in San Jose, where vehicles did "burn outs" and spun "doughnuts," the San Jose Mercury News reported Monday.
The crowd became so large that police in riot gear came and "restored order" after about 45 minutes.
While police were still in the area, people again went into the street and began throwing rocks and bottles at a Valley Transportation Authority bus, breaking the vehicle's windshield and several side windows, officials said.
A rock also broke the windshield of a police car.
No one from the crowd was arrested because its size and officers' attempts to control the gathering, said police officer Albert Morales.
Elsewhere in the city 11 people were arrested on a variety of charges, included public intoxication, assault with a deadly weapon and narcotics. In 2012, Morales said, 25 people were arrested.
