Guide dog in Philadelphia stops burglary

PHILADELPHIA, May 5 (UPI) -- A guide dog interrupted a burglary and saved a 54-year-old blind woman from a potential gas explosion in Philadelphia, police said.

The woman was awakened by her service dog barking early Friday morning after at least one intruder entered her home through a rear door, the Philadelphia Inquirer said.

The dog chased the man out of the house and led the woman to her phone, which she used to dial 911.

The house was filled with gas, as someone had turned on the stove without a flame, police said, and the dog led the woman out of the home into safety.

Police later arrested Tomayo McDuffy, 18, and charged him with burglary, criminal trespassing and other offenses.
