6 wounded in gunfire near McDonald's in East Palo Alto, Calif.

EAST PALO ALTO, Calif., May 5 (UPI) -- Gunfire broke out near a McDonald's fast-food restaurant in East Palo Alto, Calif., Sunday afternoon, leaving six people wounded, authorities said.

Menlo Park Fire Department Chief Harold Shapelhouman said the shooting occurred shortly after 2:45 p.m. PDT on University Avenue, Bay City News Service reported.

Shapelhouman said firefighters found six victims with gunshot wounds when they arrived -- four inside the restaurant and two outside. He said it was unclear where they were when they were shot, the news service said.

One man in his 20s had serious injuries and was taken to a hospital by ambulance. The others, including an older woman and a young child, had less serious injuries, Shapelhouman said.
