FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 3 (UPI) -- A Florida high school band director was arrested for sexual assault after police investigated his relationship with a female student, court records show.

Martin Anthony Brown, 33, of Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is accused of taking the student, then 17, to his home to smoke marijuana and engage in oral sex and intercourse on four occasions.

He was arrested Wednesday on four counts of sexual assault and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, court records indicated.

The girl told police the relationship began in August 2011 and ended in June 2012, a police report said.

Nearly a dozen teachers in Broward and Palm Beach Counties, Fla., have been arrested or sentenced to as much as 15 years in prison since 2010 for alleged sexual relationships with students, the South Florida Sun Sentinel said.
