The survey, conducted in 12 countries, seven in the Middle East, found little support for Western or Arab countries sending arms and support to anti-government forces in Syria. The researchers noted the survey was taken before allegations of chemical agents against the rebels by the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
It also noted little public backing for Assad, with only Lebanese Shiites viewing him favorably, and a prevalent worry in Syria's neighbors that violence will spread. It also found only 27 percent of Russians approved of Russia's alliance with Syria.
The survey was conducted from March 3 to March 7 among 11,771 people.
