NEW YORK, May 1 (UPI) -- No human remains were found at the Manhattan site where an aircraft part was discovered last week, the New York medical examiner's office said Wednesday.
The announcement followed an inspection and soil-sifting operation at 51 Park Place, where a piece of an aircraft involved in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the World Trade Center was found Friday, CNN reported.
A Boeing Co. technician confirmed the piece, 5 feet long, 4 feet wide and 17 inches deep, is a support structure for a trailing edge wing flap of a Boeing 767, the model of planes that were flown into the World trade Center towers.
Police officers, including some who responded to the attack in 2001, hoisted the 255-pound part from its location, behind an Islamic community center, and loaded it onto a truck bound for a Brooklyn police property facility, CNN said.
"It's a piece of history and we tried to preserve it as best we could. It brought back a lot of memories," said Police Deputy Chief William Aubry.
