The cyberattack affected LivingSocial customers in North America, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland and Malaysia, along with its LetsBonus users in Southern Europe and Latin America, The Washington Post reported. Subsidiaries in South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines were unaffected, the company said.
A server containing data on about 50 million customers was compromised. When logging in for the first time since the cyberattack customers will be asked to reset their password for security purposes, LivingSocial Chief Executive Officer Tim O'Shaughnessy said Friday.
Customers' credit card information was not stolen, the company, which has its headquarters in Washington, D.C., said.
