ST. PETERSBURG BEACH, Fla., April 24 (UPI) -- A man cleaning oil from the bottom of an elevator at a Florida condominium was crushed to death Wednesday morning when the elevator fell on him, police said.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Department said Mark Allen Johnson, 45, was working at the Tradewinds Island Resort in St. Petersburg Beach. Johnson, a Tampa resident employed by SWS Environmental Services, was vacuuming oil inside the shaft at the time, WFTS-TV, Tampa Bay, reported,

Resort employees said the elevator was locked in position at the time. The sheriff's office is investigating the death.

"Great, great dad and a great family man," Brad Iturriaga, Johnson's cousin, told WTSP-TV, Tampa. "He's got two younger boys, he worked really hard to have a place for them."
