Breaking News: Protesters march on Pakistan PM Nawaz's house

Houston-area police seize $2.5M in meth at lab

April 23, 2013 at 4:04 PM   |   Comments

HUMBLE, Texas, April 23 (UPI) -- Police in Texas said they broke up a meth lab and seized $2.5 million worth of the drug after neighbors reported suspicious activity and a foul smell.

Harris County Sheriff's deputies responded to the home in the Houston suburb of Humble, Texas, Monday night. When they arrived on what was initially just a welfare check, officers knocked on the front door. When no one answered they went around back where they saw through an open back door packages of methamphetamine and several common components used in making the drug.

No one was inside the house, the Houston Chronicle said.

After obtaining a search warrant, police entered the home where they recovered about 40 pounds of meth and a stash of weapons.

Police said they believed the suspects fled the residence when the first officers arrived. Several bags of the drug were found in a toilet, as if they tried to flush the drug before officers could find it, but quickly realized there was too much of it and simply ran away.
