April 16, 2013 at 2:58 PM

CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 16 (UPI) -- North Carolina police say they arrested a man whose daughter and nephew died when a dirt wall collapsed at a construction site on gun and drug charges.

Jordan Arwood was charged Monday with possession of a firearm by a felon and manufacturing a controlled substance, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported.

Lincoln County deputies said they discovered six firearms, including an AR-15 rifle, at his home while investigating the deaths of his 6-year-old daughter and 7-year-old nephew. The children were killed when a 24-foot-deep hole Arwood was digging collapsed on them.

Deputies said they also found two marijuana plants and grow lights in the home.

Officials had not determined if Arwood would be charged in the children's deaths.
