Man at center of McConnell recording seeks help with legal fees

LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 16 (UPI) -- An activist implicated in recording a Kentucky senator's campaign strategy meeting says he is looking for help to pay for his legal defense and living expenses.

Curtis Morrison says he hopes to raise $10,000 to fight allegations by a Democratic party official that he recorded a strategy session of U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., through a closed door, The (Louisville) Courier-Journal reported Monday.

In the recording, reported by Mother Jones magazine's website last week, McConnell talks about ways to attack potential political opponents, including actress Ashley Judd.

At the time, Judd was considering a run for McConnell's seat but has since said she would not run.

Morrison says contributions to his legal defense fund can be made through gofundme.com, on which he posted his plea.

Neither on gofundme.com nor his Facebook page does Morrison say whether he is guilty or innocent.

He does say he has been cooperating with an FBI investigation into how the recording was made.
