BOULDER, Colo., April 16 (UPI) -- A former University of Colorado student, accused of sickening a professor and other students with marijuana-laced brownies, pleaded guilty to the felony.
Mary Essa, 19, pleaded guilty to one count of inducing consumption of a controlled substance by fraudulent means Monday. She received a two-year deferred sentence, and 17 other charges against her were dropped, the Boulder Daily Camera reported Tuesday.
Co-defendant Thomas Cunningham, 21, offered a similar plea and received a similar sentence in March, the newspaper said.
Essa and Cunningham brought the brownies to a history class in December 2012 as part of "Bring Food Day," without informing professor Celine Dauverd or other students the desserts contained THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. Several classmates later complained of dizziness, and Dauverd and two students were hospitalized, police and court records said.
