Shot fired at Berkeley, Calif., firefighter during emergency call

BERKELEY, Calif., April 15 (UPI) -- A Berkeley, Calif., firefighter was grazed by a bullet during an emergency medical response at a home early Monday, police said.

The emergency crew requested assistance from Berkeley police, a typical occurrence, and as police arrived a shot was heard from within the home, Berkeley police officer Jennifer Coates said.

The shot was apparently fired by an unidentified man, 88, who was taken into custody, Coates said.

The man underwent a medical exam later Monday. The injured firefighter was not immediately identified, The Contra County Times reported.
