WASHINGTON, April 13 (UPI) -- The body of an Illinois man who disappeared while sightseeing in Washington was found floating in the capital's Tidal Basin reservoir, police said.

Sarath Kumar Potharaju, 35, of Grayslake, went missing March 31 during a tour of the U.S. capitol, the Chicago Tribune reported. Police Thursday pulled his body from the Tidal Basin, which was near where he was last seen.

It was unclear how Potharaju ended up in the reservoir, The Washington Post reported. Police said there were no signs of trauma.

Potharaju's family said they were devastated by the loss.

"We are so deeply shocked. I don't know how long it will take to come out of this shock," Vijay Kolluru, an uncle of Potharaju's.
