4 of 7 runways at Chicago O'Hare closed

CHICAGO, April 12 (UPI) -- Four of Chicago's O'Hare International Airport's seven runways were closed Thursday night because of a malfunctioning lighting system, officials said.

Federal Aviation Administration officials said the lights on runways 27L, 27R, 32R and 22R -- all on O'Hare's north side -- were either out or flickering, NBC-TV, Chicago, reported.

The problem began at about 9:19 p.m. and was fixed about an hour later.

Delays were likely as planes were diverted to the remaining runways, the TV station said.
