Recruiter who killed recruit married one

GERMANTOWN, Md., April 10 (UPI) -- An Army recruiter who committed suicide after killing a teenage female recruit had been married to another young recruit, sources told The Washington Post.

Officials who spoke on condition of anonymity told the newspaper friends of Michelle Miller, a 17-year-old honor student from Rockville, Md., who was to enter the military this summer, said she was romantically linked to Staff Sgt. Adam Arndt, a 31-year-old decorated soldier who was a native of Manitowoc, Wis.

Sources told the Post investigators had learned the sergeant had been texting messages and posting notes on Facebook to other teenage girls.

The Post said Arndt's 21-year-old wife Kaitlyn enlisted at the same Gaithersburg, Md., recruiting center where Arndt worked, and is posted in North Carolina. She declined to comment, the Post said.

Friends and local students said she and Arndt got married last June after a short engagement.

The Army had not decided whether to re-evaluate its recruiting practices in light of the homicide-suicide.

"The only thing the Army can do at this point, because there is an investigation, is express that the battalion is deeply saddened by the loss of Staff Sgt. Adam Arndt and Michelle Miller," Army spokesman Mark Rickert said Tuesday outside the Gaithersburg recruiting center.
