NEW YORK, April 10 (UPI) -- New York City and a property owner have agreed to pay the Occupy Wall Street movement for books and property destroyed during a sit-in by the group in 2011. The settlement by the city and Brookfield Properties ends a federal lawsuit filed by the protest group over books and other property destroyed or damaged when the city cleared the group's encampment in Zuccotti Park.

Under the settlement, the city will pay $47,000 to Occupy Wall Street's Library Working Group and $186,000 in legal fees. Brookfield, the owner of the park, will pay about $16,000.
The 3,600-volume collection of books, called the People's Library was removed when the park was cleared by police and sanitation workers. Only about 1,000 books could be recovered, the group claimed in the suit.
