State Rep. Lance Gooden sent an email to Chris Heisler, head of the U.S. Honor Flag, which is raising donations to help bolster a $200,000 reward offered for information leading to an arrest in the killings of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland, his wife and Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse.
There are no suspects as of yet.
Gooden said he sent the email to Heisler to clear up confusion over where the donations U.S. Honor Flag had received would be sent. Gooden said all donations should be handed over to Crime Stoppers.
Heisler took offense and Monday told KTVT-DT, Dallas, Gooden was playing politics with the case.
"So if he's trying to generate a response, here's my response," Heisler wrote. "If the governor's going to put some money into there, why don't you put some money in there? You don't have to put it in the Honor Network or Cynthia's fund."
