CORVALLIS, Ore., April 9 (UPI) -- A Corvallis, Ore., cheerleading coach and registered sex offender was arraigned on charges he raped a cheerleader while she was unconscious, police said.

David Chatman, 38, allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl he coached at a Tualitan cheerleading school while she was in his apartment and under the influence of prescription medicine, KVAL-TV, Eugene, reported Tuesday.

The alleged rape occurred in September 2012 but did not come to light until March, when the girl's mother contacted police, the television station said, adding Chatman was arraigned Monday and pleaded not guilty.
