WASHINGTON, April 8 (UPI) -- The founder of a security guards union in Washington, D.C., was sentenced Monday to 76 months in prison for stealing from its treasury and pension fund.
Caleb Gray-Burriss, 62, of Washington, who was president of the National Association of Special Police and Security Officers, was convicted in federal court Dec. 4 on six counts of mail fraud, seven counts of theft from a labor organization, one count each of obstruction of justice and criminal contempt, and three counts of union record-keeping offenses.
U.S. District Judge Richard W. Roberts also ordered Gray-Burriss to pay $252,000 in restitution and perform 100 hours of community service.
The association Gray-Burriss founded represents private security guards assigned to protect federal buildings in the metro Washington area.
