Clinton '07 office hostage-taker arrested

MANCHESTER, N.H., April 8 (UPI) -- A man who held some New Hampshire campaign workers for Hillary Clinton hostage in 2007 was arrested Monday, a day after walking away from a halfway house.

Leeland Eisenberg, 52, was arrested without incident and charged with escape, the Manchester Union Leader reported.

Police said he was found in the lobby of the Manchester (N.H.) Community Resource Center a little over a mile from the halfway house he walked away from Sunday.

In November 2007, Eisenberg strapped flares to his chest when he took hostages at then-presidential candidate Clinton's campaign office in Rochester, saying he had a bomb, and held several people hostage for several hours.

Eisenberg was sentenced to 3 1/2- to seven years in prison May 2010 after a judge ruled he violated probation by removing monitoring anklets and testing positive for cocaine and alcohol, the Union Leader said.

A judge approved Eisenberg for work-release in October and he transferred to the halfway house on Jan. 31.

Department of Corrections spokesman Jeff Lyons said Eisenberg would have been eligible for parole in August but could face an additional 3 1/2-to-seven-year prison sentence for escape.
