Several witnesses, including children, saw Fullwood and two pit bulls attack the pig after it wandered off its property into a mobile home park, WTOC-TV, Savannah, reported.

The pig had stab wounds in his neck and around his legs, and his ears were torn from the dog bites.

Effingham County Sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoorsaid the pig was in "stable" condition Friday.

"It looks like he'll make it," he said.

Veterinarians caring for the animal have named it Oliver and said the animal is expected to recover.

Officials said Fullwood has an extensive criminal history, including abandonment of animals, arson, theft obstruction and weapons charges.

A judge set his bail at $25,000.
