Judge: No TV coverage in Jackson trial

LOS ANGELES, April 6 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles judge ruled no television coverage will be allowed in the wrongful death suit Michael Jackson's family filed against Anschutz Entertainment Group.

Judge Yvette M. Palazuelos denied the request by CNN and NBCUniversal to televise the trial, being held in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom. While the media have a right to cover public court hearings, she said Friday it's up to her to allow or disallow cameras, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Jackson died June 25, 2009, at age 50. An investigation showed lethal levels of anesthesia and sedatives in his system.

Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson, and his three children sued AEG, alleging the U.S. concert producers didn't provide proper medical care for the musician as he prepared to launch his "This Is It" tour.

The lawsuit claims the company was negligent in hiring Dr. Conrad Murray as Jackson's personal physician.

Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for administering lethal levels of sedatives and anesthesia to the pop star in an effort to help him sleep.

AEG said it had recommended another physician, and hiring Murray was Jackson's decision.

Jury selection for the trial began Tuesday. Potential jurors were asked if they could take off the four months the trial is expected to last. Questioning of potential jurors is scheduled to begin April 15.
