Carnival Cruise Line posted a message on its Twitter account that winds sent the ship adrift. AL.com said the National Weather Service measured winds up to 66 miles per hour in the area.

The ship crew sounded its warning horn several times Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran saw "dozens of people scrambling around the ship," Metro Jail Warden Noah Price Oliver told the news website.

CNN reported officials said the Triumph was loose for several hours before it could be secured at a dock at the Alabama Cruise Terminal Wednesday night.

The cruise ship is in Mobile for repairs to damage caused by an engine room fire that left it adrift in the Gulf of Mexico for six days with 4,229 passengers aboard.
