NEW YORK, April 3 (UPI) -- Possible human remains were found after the New York City Medical Examiner's Office launched a new sifting operation of World Trade Center debris.

The office announced Tuesday it found the possible remains Monday in the new operation on Staten Island examining debris from the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

Officials said Friday the medical examiner's office and police, fire and sanitation departments would take part in the 10-week sifting operation at the Fresh Kills park area.

The workers are expected to sift through 600 cubic yards of construction debris from the site, CBSNewYork.com reported Tuesday.

The last comprehensive sifting was completed in 2010. Since 2006, the remains of 34 previously unrecovered victims were found and identified through DNA, the website said.

Of the 2,752 people killed during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks at the World Trade Center site, the remains of 1,634 have been identified.
