Man accused of cooking wife hospitalized

VISTA, Calif., April 3 (UPI) -- Court proceedings for an Oceanside, Calif., man accused of killing and cooking his wife have been postponed due to his hospitalization, his attorney said.

Frederick Hengl, 68, was admitted to Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside with hip and leg pain, Deputy Public Defender Debby Kirkwood said.

His hospitalization indefinitely postponed preliminary hearings in a case in which the dismembered head of Hengl's wife, Anna Faris, 68, was discovered in the couple's freezer and body parts were found, by police investigating complaints of a foul odor, cooking on a stove, the U-T San Diego website reported Wednesday.

Kirkwood said her client had grown "very frail and had difficulty walking" in the past few days.

Hengl was arrested in November and faces 25 years to life imprisonment if convicted on charges of murder, willful cruelty to an elder and committing an unlawful act with human remains, the website said.
