5 presidents to be at Bush library opening

WASHINGTON, April 3 (UPI) -- The five living U.S. presidents will be together for the first time in more than five years for the opening of George W. Bush's presidential library.

A spokesman for President Obama confirmed he and his wife, Michelle, plan to attend the ceremony April 25 at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Time magazine reports. Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and, of course, George W. Bush, will also be on hand with their wives.

Bush also hosted their previous meeting, a White House lunch before Obama's inauguration in January 2009.

"President Obama and the first lady look forward to participating in the formal opening of a library that will be dedicated to a president who led our country in difficult times at home and abroad," Obama spokesman, Josh Earnest, told Time. "It's difficult to fully comprehend what it's like to serve as president of the United States unless you've done it -- and President Obama has developed a good relationship with both President George W. Bush and President George H.W. Bush. He has routinely expressed his deep appreciation for the 43rd president's commitment to this country we love, and is looking forward to returning to Texas later this month."

Nancy Reagan, 91, does not plan to attend.

The group includes one possible future presidential candidate. Hillary Clinton will be making a paid speech, her first since stepping down as secretary of state, nearby the night before the opening.
